Called to Serve: Lisa Carson

Lisa Carson hadn’t planned to serve a mission . . . until she heard President Thomas S. Monson’s announcement in the October 2012 General Conference “that, effective immediately, men may now begin serving at age 18 and women at age 19.”  Upon hearing the words of a prophet of God, “I was overwhelmed by the Spirit confirming I should get ready to serve,” states the youngest daughter of Kendall and Mary Jean Carson and sister to Stephanie Bangerter.

She was originally called to serve 3 months in nearby Las Vegas, but less than a week later her plans were changed when she was informed she would be serving in the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission.  She will enter the Provo MTC on February 20 where she will spend 10 days in final preparation before leaving for her field of service.
“I am so excited for this opportunity and know I am supposed to serve in Minnesota,” states Sister Carson, who is setting a powerful example for other young women as one of more than 58,000 missionaries currently serving around the world – and as one of the very first 19-year olds to answer this historic call.  Sister Carson is also the first in her family to serve a mission.
